Dr. Anna V. Puthuran

Dr. Anna V. Puthuran graduated from Government Law College Ernakulam as the University first rank holder in B.A.LL.B. She also obtained individual first ranks in four out of five years of study and the award for the highest aggregate in Criminal Law. She completed her LLM in International Development Law & Human Rights from the University of Warwick, UK which has consistently been listed amongst the ten best Universities in the UK. She went on to win the prestigious Warwick Post Graduate Research Fellowship and a fully funded PhD from the same University. Her PhD thesis entitled “The Constructed Identities of Women in Unconventional Relationships and the Domestic Violence Laws in India: Towards a more Feminist Legal Framework” which included qualitative field research with survivors and the drafters in Delhi and Mumbai has been appreciated and referenced since.
She has worked extensively as a legal educator and has taught law in India and the UK. Her industrial experience includes having worked as a Legal Consultant in Dubai specialising in Business Succession & Estate Planning. She has worked as an activist in civil society as the Coordinator for Bodhini and has conducted training sessions for police, corporates, students, women’s self- help groups in POCSO, POSH, Cyber safety, DV prevention, sexual assault aftercare and gender sensitisation. She later founded her own NGO ‘Naam’. She has also worked with POCSO, DV and sexual assault survivors, and children in conflict with the law. She is a published poet and is passionate about human and animal rights.

The Legal Profession is one of the noblest in the world. In a quest for achieving success in the field, often the virtues that the profession holds dear are forgotten. At G-CLAR we believe in mentoring and nurturing legal professionals with a high sense of integrity and ethical values. We encourage the holistic all-round development of our students. With state of the art facilities and hands on training, we merge the practical and the theoretical. The students learn from talented and experienced faculty members and have an array of internship opportunities available to them.
We are a law school with a heart and our students are motivated and inspired to be the best versions of themselves. They are encouraged to take part in sports and other co-curricular activities and have successfully competed in several championships. The pass percentage of our students is high and we value academic excellence over everything else. We believe that disciplined, polite and empathetic law students are future social engineers. We strive to radically improve the face of legal education and help create a peaceful environment conducive to legal study and creativity. We believe in hand-holding beyond the period of study and intend to provide add on courses like civil services coaching and munsiff-magistrate test tutoring. We foster a sense of fellowship and community development.
We have a zero tolerance policy against drug abuse and ragging. We encourage gender equality and the safety of all our students is paramount. We have a green campus and coach our students to lead mindful and sustainable lives. On a parting note, our students learn to temper justice with mercy.
